Meet the Team
Joel is originally from Guayaquil, Ecuador and moved to the United States in 2006. He has a heart for planting churches and has been involved with church plants in one way or another since he was 15 years old. After being an associate minister in Annapolis, MD, Joel and his wife Meghan felt the call to plant Encounter. Joel recently completed a church planting residency at New Life Christian Church in Chantilly, VA. Joel and Meghan currently live in Columbia Heights in Washington, DC.
Joel is an avid coffee drinker, a podcast junkie, and a passionate soccer fan, go Barça! Meghan is a teacher at Harriet Tubman Elementary School in Columbia Heights. They spend their free time going on adventures together, exploring DC, and dreaming of what God will do in the city.
Ariana is originally from Costa Rica. She has been involved with church plants pretty much her whole life because her dad is a church planter. She has a heart for the nations, languages, and traveling, and a passion for seeing people from every background and tongue worshiping Jesus and loving each other.
Ariana married Jon in 2016 and Jon works as a carpenter. Their home is filled with beautiful wood décor that he has made. Ariana is a wannabe minimalist who enjoys black coffee, cities, and is learning to love the outdoors with a husband who is made for the outdoors.
They love connecting with people and making them feel welcome.

Brian & Amy Tindell
Church Planters In Residence
Brian and Amy moved to Rockville in 2017 with a job as an engineer for the government. Because of their passion for sharing the good news of Jesus with new people, they immediately joined Encounter. Brian and Amy are also eager to take what they learn at Encounter and start a new church in Rockville.
Brian and Amy have been married for 15 years and have three children who are included in all of the new-church experiences. Brian enjoys the outdoors, woodworking, and sports with the kiddos.
Encounter is a non-denominational Christian church plant that is supported by a network of several area churches coordinated by Waypoint Church Partners. These churches come together to provide oversight in the form of a Management Team that acts as a board of directors during the planting stage of our church.
